You will have the opportunity to meet your buddygroup in person during the official HeaDS Welcome Event in Munich (April 27-29). Over the next two years, you agree on further exchanges, their frequency, and topics.

The Buddy Program pairs incoming participants of the Health Data & AI Certificate Program with experienced members of the DZD. Your buddy will help you get oriented, meet people, and feel part of the community—socially and professionally.
Buddies are not academic tutors and do not provide course instruction or grading support. They can share tips and resources but are not expected to solve assignments or teach course content.
Matches are based on your survey responses (interests, goals, preferences, and, where possible, location/time zone). You’ll receive an email with your buddy’s name and contact details, plus tips for first contact.
You will meet your buddy during the Kick-off workshop. In this first meeting, you’ll:
Tip: Come with 2–3 questions you’re curious about (e.g., research environment, career paths, local tips).
It’s flexible - decide together what works best.
No problem—many pairs meet online (Teams/Zoom/WhatsApp). Agree on time windows and use shared calendars. Social activities can be virtual (e.g., coffee chat, show-and-tell, paper discussion).
Ask your instructors, TAs, or peers via course channels. Your buddy can point you to resources but is not responsible for academic coaching.
It runs in parallel with the Certificate Program. Many pairs choose to keep in touch afterward—this is optional but encouraged.
